the weight of the morning sun

the evening sun

still pond
in the cool of the day
reflecting Eden

we yearned for the
Forest of Arden but found
just an allotment

midday - already
twilight under this
July sky

there is nothing
of the pigeon - but a
garden of grey feathers
a flock of geese
fly into a power line
and light the night sky
after rain
air moves through the house
fresh and cool
water chimes
over stones - so quickly
the summer passes
the sound
of running water -
so sharp it
cuts the thick and
heavy heat of the day

Japanese Maple

I'm dry under
the Japanese Maple
watching rain

Phot Japanese Maple 1 by saynine
my eyes catch
the sudden quiver of leaves -
summer rain
heavily pregnant
she bends to the baby ducks
mesmerised

Old Olive Grove

I

asleep in the olive grove
below us the sea
above - hills

II

awake in the olive grove
church bells, cicadas
shrill children's voices

I am defined by sunlight
dissolved by the
grey swell of cloud

arc of blue
where dawn and dusk
almost touch
garden of red roses
dark, forbidden
climbing trellis and gable
house of white roses
heavy headed
tossed on the breeze
